Description of Internship Opportunity

We're looking for digital content producers and/or marketers, to help us grow an online community of food lovers creating social change. If you're curious about where your food comes from or want to show other young people (18-35) how amazing it can be to eat well while making a positive difference to the world, this is for you. We're looking for keen beans who want to create relatable, clickable and funny content for their peers, on food issues that matter.
We'll work with you to design an internship on topic areas you actually care about, for the communications and media skills you want to strengthen. You'll also walk away with published work that you can point employers to with pride.
What you’ll be doing
You can choose to focus on or combine any of 3 areas:
1. Social media content production will strengthen your multi-media production skills in graphic design, photography, image procurement, and video creation. You'll also have access to some basic analytics data on Facebook to help you create even more engaging content.
2. Article production will strengthen your research and writing skills (best for journalism students). You'll be gathering credible sources to craft blog articles that inspire and inform readers. You'll also be shown how to use data to design articles that are optimised for reach. After publishing and marketing, you'll also have access to some basic analytics data to help you create even more engaging content. Ideally you'll have used a CMS before but we can train you up on Wordpress.
3. Social marketing will strengthen skills in amplifying and analysing the reach and impact of content that's been created, using both organic and paid methods. You'll be shown the practical ins and outs of creating social media posts like a pro, and networking with other organisations. You'll also source click-worthy imagery for articles and social posts, and create videos that generate greater interest in our articles.
What we'll give you:
- in-person 1 on 1 mentoring and training for their chosen focus area(s) from the National Communications Manager
- digital how-to resources and access to online software needed
- feedback on work before it's published
- access to and training on Google Analytics, Google Trends, Facebook Insights, and interpreting data, as relevant to area(s) of focus
Our office and working hours
Our incredible waterfront office in Glebe is open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. We also cook lunch together so you'll also be learning practical ways to make healthy, sustainable eats that taste amazing as they look.
Your hours
We're flexible with how you choose to allocate your hours for credit, as long as they're within the working hours above if you work from the office. As a general guide, our interns work 1-3 days a week from the office. Students can work in office or remotely.
More about us
The Youth Food Movement is a national volunteer-led organisation that aims to build the skills, knowledge and experience that young people (18-35) have around food. More than that, we empower them to take those skills, knowledge and experiences out into the world and create the food system that they believe in.
You’ll be working in a young, creative and inclusive workplace full of people who love food as much as their work.
