Faculty of Arts receives over $4 million in ARC grants

The Australian Research Council (ARC) is awarding the Faculty of Arts more than $4 million as part of its Discovery Projects, Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards, and Future Fellowships schemes.

The research projects which have received funding are:

  • Regional Politics in the Southwest Pacific: From Colonialism and Cold War to the Asia-Pacific Century
    Researcher: Professor Stephanie Lawson (Department of Modern History, Politics and International Relations)

Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards
  • The Other War: An investigation via documentary film into images of race and otherness in WW1 and their implications for Indigenous communities today 
    Researcher: Dr Tom Murray (Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies)
  • How Old are the Oldest Christian Manuscripts? The Modern History of Ancient Christian Papyri and a New Approach to Establishing their Dates 
    Researcher: Dr Brent Nongbri (Department of Ancient History)

In the latest round of ARC funding, a total of 34 Macquarie University research projects were successful in receiving a grant, including:

  • 8 Future Fellowships ($6 million funding)
  • 21 Discovery Projects ($7.47 million funding)
  • 5 Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards ($1.79 million funding)

Macquarie's success rate was significantly above the national average (25% vs 19.9% and 22.2% vs 16.9% respectively) in Discovery Projects and Future Fellowships, and level with the national average for DECRAs.
